Cellular Telephony

Greece has 3 GSM mobile phone operators and competition is pretty intense. All of them offer "a la carte" programs, meaning a SIM card with a connection ID that can be used by any GSM handset, which gives you phone time according to the air minutes you have purchased.
These programs can be purchased through almost any newstand in the country and through the three operators' stores and other affiliated points of sale with their logos on the storefront. Visitors to the country will be connected automatically to one of the operator's networks as soon as they cross the border or as soon as they switch their phones on after their planes have reached the gate.
All operators send SMS messages to new phones on their network with useful information and help desk phone numbers that you can call. Do not erase those SMS messages during your stay, as they come in handy during an emergency.
